As an enhancement school curriculum, healthy and pathological human organs are used to demonstrate consequences of lifestyle choices. Choice & Consequence’s® (CC) “The Real Inside Story” (TRIS)® program uses the organs as a tool for learning with licensed registered nurses. The organs are from donors who wished their organs used for transplant, education and research. The nurses teaching the program are experts portraying important scientific material about substance abuse in a fun, interesting manner. This holds some real meaning for the students and its impact is apparent in their reaction to seeing & feeling the truth. The TRIS educational program inspires, motivates, and influences youth to choose new health behaviors, ensuring a healthy, productive future. The CC organization provides a service to educators, contributing a reality element to school curriculum. Putting on gloves and feeling the difference between healthy organs and those damaged from substance abuse is unforgettable. The use of personal stories helps our health educators touch the affective domain of learning. Much work is needed to counteract the influence of tobacco and alcohol advertising. The program educates students about social norms that wrongly give the message that "all kids try drugs and alcohol" or "it is a right of passage". Teens today place a high value on being real, as evidenced by the popularity and demand for reality-based television. The TRIS program presents with this in mind and the goal of minimizing a serious barrier to youth’s learning, the belief that they are indestructible. Choice & Consequence® is the only not-for-profit 501(c)(3)human organ program operating in classrooms across Washington State and uses only registered nurses as educators for "The Real Inside Story"® program. CC's registered nurses follow the Revised Code of Washington, RCW 26.44.030 and all other laws governing nursing practice in the state. CC's nurses can present the program in all 50 states and other countries.
