1. Where the organization gets their human organs is not shared because of confidentiality and to prevent the potential identification of any person. The organs are provided by a pathologist at a teaching hospital and can only be used for diagnostic, scientific, or therapeutic purposes, including education. Family members sign a consent form prior to autopsy agreeing to these purposes. Back to top

5. Body Buddy is an adaptation of "The Real Inside Story" (TRIS) so younger children in grades K-3 can take advantage of this important information at an age appropriate level. The focus is on how the body works, how to keep it healthy, and covers physical activity, nutrition, substance use, bullying/racism, and mental health. Back to top
6. K-3 teachers must request "Body Buddy" because it has been developed specifically for this age group and is appropriate material for them. Back to top
7. We have some grant funding for low income Snohomish county schools this year. Teachers can request the free presentations if their school has a free or reduced meal rate of 51% or higher. Grant funding fell this year so Choice & Consequence is specifically targeting low income families, which are typically at a higher risk for problems, with the limited funding. Check back at the News link frequently to see what other funding has come through. Back to top
8. Some teachers have found funding by asking local community organizations help bring the the program to their schools. Some private school teachers have asked that parents pay a fee of $2 if there are about 300 students participating for a full day. Sometimes local Rotary Clubs will donate the funds. Some teachers are able to use their schools' General Fund to pay the fee. Others have requested help form their local education foundations or their Educational service Districts for funds. 15. What makes the Choice & Consequence (CC) programs unique is that there are a strong mental health component and mind-body-spirit focus. CC uses nurses with education in ethics and nursing and family theories. Scare tactics are not used. The dramatic storytelling technique includes a compilation of many patients for helping youth understand their vulnerability and makes it "real" for them. Personal history of each presenter is used and the consequences of their early choices are highlighted. Normative beliefs are addressed since most kids don't use drugs and many think "all kids use". Frequent literature reviews are conducted to ensure the most up-to date content for both programs. The programs are changed frequently based on new information. Choice & Consequence plans to study the effects of the programs on youth over time with a longitudinal study. The programs are not exclusively about substance use and abuse. The programs include physical activity, nutrition, substance use. bullying and racism, and mental health components. Back to top
